Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed Sadaqat al-Fitr of one sa’ of dates or barley, or half a sa’ of wheat, upon every free and slave, young and old, male and female.

Hazrat Usman says that Sadaqat-ul-Fitr is one sa’ of dates or half a sa’ of wheat.

Hazrat Abu Qalabah narrates that the person who gave Sadaqat-ul-Fitr to Hazrat Siddiq Akbar told me that it is half a sa’ of food (wheat).

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib in a marfu’ form that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about Sadaqat al-Fitr. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For the young and the old, the free and the slave, it is half a sa’ of wheat or one sa’ of dates or barley.

Ibrahim says that Sadaqat al-Fitr is half a sa’ of wheat upon every small, big, free, and slave, and upon every person.

Hazrat Mujahid says that every person will pay half a sa’ of wheat as Sadaqat al-Fitr. And if someone wishes to give something other than wheat, then he should pay a full sa’ of dates, raisins, cheese, barley, or anything else.

Imam Sha'bi states that Sadaqat al-Fitr is obligatory upon every free person who has fasted during Ramadan, and upon every slave whether he has fasted or not, and it is half a sa' of wheat or one sa' of dates or barley.

Hasan also said, similar to Imam Sha’bi, that among the free people are those who did not fast.

Hazrat Abdullah states that (Sadaqat al-Fitr) is two mudd of wheat or one sa’ of dates or barley.

It is narrated in the same manner from Hazrat Jabir.

Hazrat Tawus narrates from his father that (Sadaqat al-Fitr) is half a sa’ of wheat or one sa’ of dates.

Hazrat Mak’hool states that Sadaqat-ul-Fitr is one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of barley.

Hazrat Ata says that Sadaqat al-Fitr is two mudds of wheat or one sa’ of dates or raisins.

Hazrat Amr narrates that I heard Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair saying on the pulpit that Sadaqat-ul-Fitr is two mudd of wheat, or one sa’ of dates or raisins.

Hazrat Sha’bah states that I asked Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad regarding Sadaqat al-Fitr. Both of them replied that it is half a sa’ of wheat. Then I asked Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Qasim and Hazrat Sa’d bin Ibrahim regarding this, and they also gave the same answer.

Hazrat Abu Habib narrates that I asked Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaddad about Sadaqat al-Fitr. He replied that it is half a sa’ of wheat or flour.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him, may Allah honor his face) said that Sadaqat al-Fitr is one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of barley or half a sa’ of wheat.

It is narrated from Hazrat Fatimah that Hazrat Asma used to take care of her family members, whether they were present or absent, i.e., on a journey. She used to pay their Sadaqat al-Fitr as half a sa’ of wheat or one sa’ of dates or barley.

Hazrat Auf narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote to Hazrat Adi, who read it aloud in Basra, which I myself heard. It was written in it that Sadaqat al-Fitr is obligatory upon every young and old, free and slave, male and female: half a sa’ of wheat or one sa’ of dates.

It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed Sadaqat al-Fitr as one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of barley. Hazrat Nafi says that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to pay Sadaqat al-Fitr on behalf of the women of his family who were under his care, and on behalf of his slaves, except for two mukatab slaves, for whom he did not pay.
