Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Tawus narrates that when Hazrat Mu'adh came to Yemen, people brought to him the intermediate number between the two prescribed amounts for honey and goats (for example, if there are five camels, the zakat is only one goat, and until their number reaches ten, there will be no increase; thus, from five to ten is called 'waqs'). He said: I have not been commanded (to collect zakat) regarding them.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz sent me to Yemen. I intended to take 'ushr (tithe) from honey, but Mughira bin Hakim al-San'ani forbade me, saying that there is no 'ushr in it. I wrote the situation to Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz, and he replied, "He has said correctly; he is just."

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz asked me about the zakat on honey. I replied that Hazrat Mughira bin Hakim has informed me that there is nothing (no zakat) in it. Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz said that he is just ('adil); his statement will be accepted.
