Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that a man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "I am ruined." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "What has ruined you?" He said, "During Ramadan, I had intercourse with my wife." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Free a slave." He said, "I do not have any slave." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Fast for two consecutive months." He said, "I do not have the strength for that." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Feed sixty needy people." He said, "I do not have the means for that either." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Sit down." So he sat down. In the meantime, a basket of dates was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said to the man, "Take this and give it as charity." The man said, "By Him who has sent you with the truth, there is no household between the two hills of Medina poorer than mine." Hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled so much that his blessed teeth became visible. Then he said, "Go and feed it to your family."

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

Hazrat Aisha narrates that a man came to the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "I am ruined." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him about the reality, so he said, "I had intercourse with my wife during Ramadan." After a while, a basket of dates was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He asked, "Where is the one who said he was ruined?" The man stood up, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Give this as charity."
