Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Shareek narrates that Hazrat Salim once had food prepared and sent a man to invite Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair. Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair said that he was fasting. Hazrat Salim then related to him the hadith of Hazrat Salman, that Hazrat Abu Darda had broken his fast at his request. Upon this, Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair broke his fast.

Hazrat Khursha bin Har says that we were with Hazrat Umar when food was brought to him. He asked the people to eat, but everyone said that they were fasting. Hazrat Umar insisted that they break their fast, so all the people broke their fast.

Hazrat Sulaiman bin Musa asked Hazrat Ata, "Can a person break his fast for his guest?" He replied, "Yes."

Hasan used to permit that if someone had a guest, he could break his fast for the sake of the guest and later make up for that day’s fast.
