Can the person in i'tikaf buy and sell?
Hadith 9950
٩٩٥٠ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن (ابن) (١) (أبي) (٢) نجيح عن مجاهد قال: المعتكف لا يبيع ولا يبتاع.
Hazrat Mujahid says that the person observing i'tikaf cannot buy or sell.
Hadith 9951
٩٩٥١ - حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن عمار (بن) (١) عبد اللَّه بن يسار عن أبيه أن عليًا أعان جعدة بن هبيرة بسبع مائة درهم من عطائه في ثمن خادم فسأله هل ابتعت خادمًا قال: أنا معتكف قال: وما عليك (لو) (٢) (أتيت) (٣) السوق فابتعت خادمًا (٤).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Yasar narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) assisted Hazrat Ja'da bin Hubaira in purchasing a servant by giving him seven hundred dinars. Then he asked him whether he had bought the servant. He replied that he was in a state of i'tikaf. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that there is no harm if you go to the market and buy the servant.
