Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ata states that when Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) intended to perform i'tikaf, he would set up a tent for himself and fulfill his needs therein. Then he would neither go to his family nor go under a roof.

Hazrat Umar saw some people who had set up curtains in the mosque for i'tikaf. Hazrat Umar forbade them from this and asked, "What is this?" They said, "We have set up the curtains for eating food." Hazrat Umar said, "You may set up curtains for eating food, but when you have finished eating, remove the curtains."

Hazrat Ikrimah says that the person observing i'tikaf will not enter a roofed room.

Ibrahim says that the person observing i'tikaf will not come under a roof.

Hazrat Abu Salamah says that he will not enter the house.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that he will not enter the room.

Hasan says that he will not enter the room.
