Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when a person sits for I'tikaf, he should attend the Friday prayer, visit the sick, participate in funerals, come to his family while standing, and fulfill his necessities.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that the person observing i'tikaf can offer Jumu'ah prayer, visit the sick, and will go when the Imam calls him.

Hazrat Umrah narrates that Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to visit a sick person among her family members while walking during the state of I'tikaf.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that the person observing i'tikaf will attend the Friday prayer, visit the sick, participate in funeral prayers, go out for necessities, and respond to the call of the Imam. He said this because he had called Hazrat Amr bin Harith, but he did not come due to being in i'tikaf, so Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair wrote this statement to him, upon which he came.

Ibrahim says that the predecessors used to like the following habits of the person observing i'tikaf without making them a condition: visiting the sick, following the funeral procession, and performing the Friday prayer.

Hazrat Sha’bi says that the person observing i’tikaf may go out to relieve himself, may visit a sick person, and may go for the Friday prayer, but he will stand at the door.

Hasan says that the person observing i'tikaf may go for Jumu'ah (Friday prayer).

Hazrat Abu Salamah says that the person observing i'tikaf will visit the sick, perform the Friday prayer, and may stand and talk with someone on the way.

Hasan says that the person observing i'tikaf can go out to relieve himself, can go behind a funeral procession, and can visit a sick person.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that the person observing i'tikaf will attend the Friday prayer, perform the funeral prayer, and will go if the Imam calls him.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would observe i'tikaf, he would only come home for a necessity.

Hazrat Umrah narrates that Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to pass by any sick person among her relatives while in the state of I'tikaf, but she would not pay attention to them.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib and Hazrat Ata say that the person observing i'tikaf will neither participate in a funeral nor visit a sick person.

Hazrat Zuhri says that the person observing i'tikaf will neither participate in a funeral, nor visit a sick person, nor go upon anyone's invitation.

Hazrat Mujahid says that the person observing i'tikaf should neither go with a funeral procession nor visit a sick person.

Hazrat Urwah says that the person observing i'tikaf will neither go upon anyone's call, nor visit a sick person, nor participate in a funeral.
