Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Lajlaj narrates that when we traveled with Hazrat Umar, he would shorten the prayer and break the fast after a distance of three miles.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Harmalah narrates that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib whether I should shorten the prayer and leave the fast at the place of Reem. He replied, "Yes." This place is at a distance of two Barid from Madinah.

Hazrat Ata says that fasting during travel is like prayer. When you shorten the prayer, you can also leave the fast.

Hazrat Ja'far bin Burqan says that I asked Hazrat Zuhri, "On how long a journey can the prayer be shortened?" He replied, "On a tiring journey." I asked, "What is a tiring journey?" He replied, "A journey of two days."

Ibrahim Taimi's father narrates that I was with Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) in Mada'in. I asked him for permission to return to my home, so he said, "I give you permission on the condition that you do not leave the fast of Ramadan until you reach home." I said, "I promise that until I reach home, I will neither leave the fast of Ramadan nor shorten the prayer."

Hazrat Mirthad narrates that Hazrat Abu Maisarah traveled during Ramadan and broke his fast near the gate of the bridge.
