Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, gave glad tidings of Ramadan to his companions, saying: The month of Ramadan has come upon you, which is a blessed month. Fasting in it has been made obligatory upon you. In it, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed. In it, the devils are chained. In this month, there is a night which is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is truly deprived.

Hazrat Arfajah narrates that I was with Hazrat Utbah bin Farqad, and he was describing the virtues of Ramadan. In the meantime, a companion arrived, so he became silent. It seemed as if he became silent out of awe for him. When he sat down, Hazrat Utbah said to him, "O Abu so-and-so! Please narrate to us the hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "In Ramadan, the doors of Paradise are opened, the doors of Hell are closed, the devils are chained, and every night of Ramadan a caller announces: O seeker of good, advance! O seeker of evil, desist!"

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to especially encourage standing (in prayer) during Ramadan. On one occasion, he said: When the month of Ramadan comes, the doors of Paradise are opened, the doors of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salamah bin Abdur Rahman that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his past sins are forgiven.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The month of Ramadan has come; in it, the doors of Paradise are opened, the doors of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained. Destruction is for the person who found the month of Ramadan and was not forgiven; if he could not secure his forgiveness in Ramadan, then when will he do so?

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that when the month of Ramadan would arrive, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) would deliver a sermon and say: This is the blessed month in which Allah Almighty has made fasting obligatory, but has not made standing (in prayer) obligatory.

Hazrat Masruq says that Hazrat Umar also used to say the same.

Hazrat Abu Huraira states that whoever observes the standing (prayers) and fasting of Ramadan with steadfastness, the very first reward he receives is that his sins are forgiven in such a way as if he has just been born from his mother's womb.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his past sins are forgiven.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "This month has come upon you—listen with the oath of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him—that no month better than this has come upon the Muslims, and no month worse than this has come upon the hypocrites. By the oath of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, Allah Almighty writes the reward and supererogatory acts for this month before its arrival, and Allah Almighty writes its sins and punishment before its arrival. For this reason, the ability and strength for worship and good deeds are increased for the believer, and for the hypocrites, seeking out and spreading the faults of the Muslims is made easy. This month is a gain for the believer and a calamity for the wicked."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his sins are forgiven.
