What Should the Imam Recite Quietly?
Hadith 9089
٩٠٨٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: ثنا وكيع عن ابن أبي ليلى عن الحكم عن إبراهيم ⦗٤٥٠⦘ قال: أربع لا يجهر بهن الإمام بسم اللَّه الرحمن الرحيم والاستعاذة وآمين و (اللهم) (١) ربنا لك الحمد.
Ibrahim says that in four things the Imam will not recite aloud: Bismillah, Isti'adhah, Ameen, and Allahumma Rabbana Lakal Hamd.
Hadith 9090
٩٠٩٠ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن منصور عن إبراهيم قال: خمس يخفيهن الإمام: الاستعاذة وسبحانك اللهم وبحمدك وبسم اللَّه الرحمن الرحيم وآمين واللهم ربنا لك الحمد.
Ibrahim says that the Imam will say these five things in a low voice: seeking refuge, praise, Bismillah, Ameen, and "Allahumma Rabbana lakal hamd."
Hadith 9091
٩٠٩١ - حدثنا وكيع عن ربيع عن الحسن وابن سيرين أنهما كانا يخفيان الاستعاذة.
Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin used to say the supplication for seeking refuge in a low voice.
Hadith 9092
٩٠٩٢ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا الأعمش عن إبراهيم عن الأسود قال: سمعت عمر يقول إذا افتتح الصلاة: سبحانك اللهم وبحمدك وتبارك اسمك وتعالى جدك ولا إله غيرك قال: الأسود (يسمعناها) (١) (٢).
Hazrat Aswad narrates that I heard Hazrat Umar, when he would begin the prayer, he would say these words: O Allah! You are pure and all praise is for You. Your name is blessed, Your majesty is exalted, there is no deity except You. Hazrat Aswad says that Hazrat Umar used to recite these words to us.
Hadith 9093
٩٠٩٣ - حدثنا هشيم قال: ثنا حصين ومغيرة عن إبراهيم قال: يخفي الإمام بسم اللَّه الرحمن الرحيم والاستعاذة وآمين وربنا لك الحمد.
Ibrahim says that the Imam will say these things quietly: Bismillah, Isti'adhah, Ameen, and Rabbana lakal hamd.
Hadith 9094
٩٠٩٤ - حدثنا هشيم عن (سعيد) (١) بن (مرزبان) (٢) قال: ثنا أبو وائل عن عبد اللَّه أنه كان يخفي بسم اللَّه الرحمن الرحيم والاستعاذة وربنا لك الحمد (٣).
Hazrat Abu Wa'il narrates that Hazrat Abdullah used to say Bismillah, Isti'adhah, and Rabbana Lakal Hamd in a low voice.
