Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim says that the predecessors liked that when they came to Makkah, they would not leave without completing the Qur'an.

Ibrahim narrates that Alqamah completed the recitation of the Holy Qur’an in one night in Makkah in such a way that he performed seven circuits (tawaf) of the Ka’bah. Then he came to Maqam Ibrahim and recited Surah Ma’in there. Then he performed seven more circuits of tawaf. Then he came to Maqam Ibrahim and offered prayer there, then recited Surah Mathani. Then he performed seven circuits of the Ka’bah. Then he came to Maqam Ibrahim, offered prayer there, and recited the remaining portion of the Holy Qur’an.

Hasan says that the predecessors used to like that when they came for Hajj or Umrah, they would not leave from there without reciting as much of the Qur'an as they had memorized.

Hazrat Abu Majliz states that it was considered preferable that when coming to these mosques, one should not leave without completing the recitation of the Holy Qur'an: Masjid al-Haram, Masjid al-Madina, and Masjid al-Bait al-Maqdis.
