Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan. Seek it on the twenty-first, twenty-third, twenty-fifth, twenty-seventh, or the last night.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

Hazrat Abu Marthad narrates that I was with Hazrat Abu Dharr Ghifari near the middle Jamarah. I asked him about the Night of Qadr, so he said: I used to ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) the most about the Night of Qadr. One day I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! The Night of Qadr used to occur in the times of the Prophets; when the Prophets departed from this world, this night was also taken away. Is it so?" He replied, "No, rather the Night of Qadr will remain until the Day of Resurrection." I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Then please inform me about it." He said, "If I were permitted to inform you about it, I would surely have told you. However, I will say this much: seek it in one of the last seven nights of Ramadan. Now do not ask me about this matter." After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became engaged in other matters. When I sensed happiness in his blessed disposition, I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! I beseech you by oath to tell me about this night." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became so angry with me that I had never seen him so angry before or after.

Hazrat Abu Aqrab Asadi says that we went to Hazrat Ibn Masood, and we found him on the roof of a room. We heard him saying, before coming down, that Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. We said to him that we heard you say, before coming down, that Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Night of Qadr is in the last seven nights of Ramadan, and its sign is that on that night, when the sun rises, it is white and without rays. When I saw the sun, I found it in the same state as I had been told, so I glorified Allah with happiness.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that once I was sleeping during Ramadan when a man came to me and said that tonight is Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power). I woke up from sleep and, holding the rope of a tent of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I presented myself before him while he was offering prayer. I estimated the night, and it was the twenty-third night of Ramadan. Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that Satan comes out with the sun every night except Laylat al-Qadr. That is why, on the day after Laylat al-Qadr, the sun rises white, without rays.

Hazrat Qanan bin Abdullah Nahmi says that I asked Hazrat Zir about the Night of Qadr. He replied that Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him), and many other companions had no doubt that the Night of Qadr is the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan. When three days of Ramadan remain.

Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b says that Laylat al-Qadr is the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan.

Hazrat Sanabhi reports that he asked Hazrat Bilal about the Night of Qadr, and he replied that it is the night of the twenty-third of Ramadan.

Hazrat Umar says: Do you know that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Seek the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.

Hazrat Abdullah says that seek the Night of Qadr in the twenty-third, twenty-first, and nineteenth nights of Ramadan. And seek the Night of Qadr in the morning of the fourteenth night, because the sun rises every day between the two horns of Satan, except on the morning of the fourteenth, for on that day the sun is clear and has no rays.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the last ten days of Ramadan would arrive, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up his family and tighten his waistcloth. Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Ayyash was asked what is meant by tightening the waistcloth? He replied that it means abstaining from women.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that Laylatul Qadr can be in any night of Ramadan.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wake up his wives during the last ten days of Ramadan.

Hazrat Abdullah says that whoever spends the whole year in night prayer will attain Laylat al-Qadr. Hazrat Ubayy says that Hazrat Abdullah knew that Laylat al-Qadr is on the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan.

Hazrat Abi says that Laylat al-Qadr is the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan.

Hazrat Zir bin Hubaish narrates that when it is the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan, perform ghusl (ritual bath). On this night, if any of you can delay your iftar (breaking of the fast) until suhoor (pre-dawn meal), then do so, and he should also break his fast on that day with lassi (a yogurt-based drink).

Hasan says that Laylat al-Qadr is a bright and radiant night, in which the sun rises without rays.

Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Harith bin Hisham says that Lailat-ul-Qadr is the seventeenth night, which is the night of Friday.

Hazrat Abdullah says that seek the Night of Qadr on the seventeenth night, because it is the morning of the full moon (fourteenth) night, it is the day of decision when two parties fought against each other.

Hasan says that Laylat al-Qadr can occur in the entire month of Ramadan.

Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit narrates that once Muhammad (peace be upon him) came out to inform the people about Laylatul Qadr, but two men were fighting. He said, "I came to inform you about Laylatul Qadr, but so-and-so and so-and-so were fighting; perhaps there is good in this. Seek it in the ninth, seventh, and fifth nights."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Unais narrates that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about Laylatul Qadr, so he said: "Seek it in tonight." It was the twenty-third night.

It is narrated from Hazrat Fultan bin Asim that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I had seen the Night of Qadr, then it was made to be forgotten by me. Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten (days).

Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b used to say that Laylat al-Qadr is the twenty-seventh night; this is the same night about which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that on this night the sun rises white and bright.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Sabit narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wake up his wives during the last ten days of Ramadan and encouraged them to worship more than he did other people.

Hazrat Aswad bin Yazid narrates that Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to wake up her family members on the twenty-third night.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Yazid narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) used to sprinkle water on the people of his household on the twenty-third night.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to wake up his family members during the last ten nights.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakrah used to perform his usual acts of worship in Ramadan just as he did on other days, but when the last ten days began, he would strive much harder.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) strove in worship during the last ten days of Ramadan more than at any other time.

Hazrat Mujahid says about the verse {إنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاہُ فِی لَیْلَۃِ الْقَدْرِ } of the Holy Quran that this is the Night of Decree, and about { وَمَا أَدْرَاک مَا لَیْلَۃُ الْقَدْرِ } he also says that this is the Night of Decree.

Hazrat Aamir says that the day of Laylatul Qadr is like its night, and its night is like its day.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib says that whoever offered the Maghrib and Isha prayers in congregation on the Night of Qadr has taken his share from the Night of Qadr.
