Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ka'b bin Ujrah narrates that we asked, "O Messenger of Allah! We have learned how to send peace upon you, but how should we send blessings upon you? Please teach us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Say these words: O Allah, send mercy upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent mercy upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri that we said, "O Messenger of Allah! We have learned how to send salutations upon you, now please teach us how to send blessings (Durood) upon you." He said, "Say: O Allah! Send mercy upon Your servant and Messenger, Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him), as You sent mercy upon Hazrat Ibrahim. And send blessings upon Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him), as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim."

Hazrat Talha says that we asked, "O Messenger of Allah! We have learned the way to send salutations upon you; now teach us the way to send blessings (Durood) upon you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said, "Say these words: O Allah, send mercy upon Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) and upon his family as You sent mercy upon Ibrahim and upon his family. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) and upon his family as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon his family. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."

Hazrat Uqbah bin Amr narrates that once a man came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and, sitting before him, said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have learned how to send salutations upon you; please tell us how we should send blessings (durood) upon you?" The Prophet remained silent for a while, until we wished in our hearts that he had not asked this question. Then the Prophet said: "When you send blessings, say: O Allah, send mercy upon the unlettered Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon his family, as You sent mercy upon Ibrahim and upon his family. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, send blessings upon the unlettered Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon his family, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon his family. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."

Hasan narrates that the people said, "O Messenger of Allah! We have learned the way to send salutations upon you, now teach us the way to send blessings (durood) upon you as well." He said, "Say: O Allah! Bestow Your mercy and blessings upon the family of Muhammad (peace be upon him) as You bestowed upon Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."
