Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) considered the division of the Mushaf into sections (Ta’sheer) to be disliked. (The meaning of Ta’sheer of the Holy Qur’an is to divide the Qur’an into parts, such as Ajza’, Siparas, quarters, halves, thirds, etc. The predecessors disliked this practice because there was a danger that, due to the margins, these things might be considered part of the Qur’an, which in reality are not part of the Holy Qur’an. However, when this fear was eliminated, the dislike also ceased. Now, for many years, Muslims have been practicing Ta’sheer.)

Hazrat Ata considered the marking of every tenth verse in the Mushaf as disliked, and also considered it disliked that anything other than the Qur'an be written in the Mushaf.

It is also narrated similarly from Ibrahim.

Hazrat Mujahid considered it undesirable that tashir (marking) or detailed writing be done in the Mushaf. Or that it be said, "This is Surah Al-Baqarah," or that it be said, "This is the surah in which the cow is mentioned."

Hazrat Ata considered the marking of every tenth verse in the Mushaf as disliked, and also considered it disliked that anything other than the Qur'an be written in the Mushaf.

Hazrat Zabraqan says that I said to Hazrat Abu Razin that I have a Mushaf and I want to gild it with gold and I also wish to write at the beginning of each Surah how many verses it contains. Abu Razin said: Do not add anything, whether little or much, of the world to the Holy Qur'an.

Hazrat Hisham states that Muhammad used to consider those Fawatih and Awashir as disliked in which there was the letter Qaf or Kaf.

Hazrat Abdullah once saw a line drawn in a Mushaf, so he erased it and said, "Do not mix non-Qur'an with the Qur'an."

Ibrahim considered marking every tenth verse in the Mushaf as disliked.

Hazrat Ata has considered making 'Tashir' in the Mushaf as disliked (makruh).

Ibrahim has considered the use of dots and the ending of surahs in the Qur'an as disliked.

Hazrat Ibn Masood says: Keep the Qur'an free from anything other than the Qur'an, and do not mix into it anything that is not a part of it.

Ibrahim says: Keep the Qur'an free from anything that is not Qur'an.

Hazrat Abdullah says: Keep the Qur'an free from anything that is not Qur'an.

Hazrat Hasan bin Ubaidullah says that I asked Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Aswad, "What prevented you from asking questions in the way that Ibrahim asked questions?" He replied, "It was said that keep the Qur'an free from anything that is not Qur'an."

Hazrat Abu Al-Aaliyah considered it undesirable that some phrases be written at the beginning and end of the manuscripts of the Qur'an. He used to say: "Keep the Qur'an free from anything other than the Qur'an."
