Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Salamah narrates that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to inform me about the Tahajjud prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray thirteen rak‘ahs at night in both Ramadan and outside of Ramadan, which included the two sunnah rak‘ahs of Fajr.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer thirteen rak'ahs at night.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that we were returning from Hudaybiyyah with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When we reached the place of Sahba, Hazrat Mu’adh said, “Who will give us water to drink?” At this, I went out with some young men and we drank water from Asayah and also filled our vessels. When night fell, a man was struggling with his camel at the water. When I looked, it was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I held your mount and made it sit down. You moved forward and led the ‘Isha prayer; I was on your right side. Then you performed thirteen rak‘ahs.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that once I was at night with my maternal aunt, Ummul Momineen Hazrat Maymunah. That night, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was also there with her. During the night, I saw that he got up and performed eleven or thirteen rak‘ahs (units of prayer).

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer nine units of prayer at night.
