Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Ja'far narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a short-statured man who was called "Zaneem" (defective in creation). Upon seeing him, the Prophet prostrated and said, "All praise is for Allah who did not create me like him."

When Hazrat Abu Bakr conquered Yamamah, he performed a prostration (sajdah).

Hazrat Yahya bin Jazar narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who had an old illness. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), along with Hazrat Abu Bakr and Umar, upon seeing him, performed a prostration of gratitude.

Hazrat Aslam narrates that when the news of the victory of Yamamah reached Hazrat Umar, he performed a prostration of gratitude.

A venerable elder, Hazrat Abu Musa, narrates that once a person with an incomplete physical structure came to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), so he performed a prostration of gratitude.

Ibrahim considered the prostration of gratitude (sajda-e-shukr) to be disliked, and Hazrat Mansur says that I have learned that Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar performed the prostration of gratitude.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the verse regarding the marriage of Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Zainab with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was revealed, Hazrat Zaid bin Harithah sought permission from Hazrat Zainab to enter. Upon hearing his voice, Hazrat Zainab said, “What connection is there between me and Zaid?” He sent a message saying, “I am the messenger of Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and have brought a message to you.” She then permitted Hazrat Zaid to enter, and Hazrat Zaid gave Hazrat Zainab the glad tidings that Allah Almighty had married her to His Prophet. Upon hearing this, Hazrat Zainab fell into prostration to thank Allah Almighty.

Hazrat Mughira states that Ibrahim considered the prostration of joy to be disliked, and he used to say that there is no bowing or prostration for happiness.

Hazrat Abu Mo’min Wasili says that when a deformed person was brought to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he looked at him and performed a prostration of gratitude.

Ibrahim says that the prostration of gratitude is an innovation.

Hazrat Rabban bin Sabrah Hanafi says that he was present on the day of Nahrawan. He states that he was among those who extracted Dhu al-Thadiyya. Before they reached Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he had already received the news. When they reached him, he was in prostration out of happiness.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf narrates that I presented myself before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he was in prostration. When he raised his head from prostration, I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! You prolonged the prostration!" He replied, "I performed this prostration because Allah Almighty has bestowed a favor upon me regarding my Ummah."
