Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was traveling on the way, he would combine Maghrib and Isha prayers and offer them together.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I have performed eight rak‘ahs together and seven rak‘ahs together with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: I said, O Abu Sha‘tha! I think that you delayed the Zuhr prayer and performed the Asr prayer early, and delayed the Maghrib prayer and performed the Isha prayer early. He replied: I also think the same.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the Zuhr and Asr prayers and the Maghrib and Isha prayers during the Battle of Tabuk.

Hazrat Mu'adh bin Jabal narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers during the journey of the Battle of Tabuk.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the prayers of Zuhr and Asr, and Maghrib and Isha in Madinah without any fear or rain. Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked why the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did this. He replied that it was for the ease of the Ummah.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaqiq Aqili reports that a man said to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), "The time for prayer has come." He remained silent. The man said again, "The time for prayer has come." He remained silent. When the man said for the third time, "The time for prayer has come," Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "Woe to you, are you teaching us about prayer? We used to combine two prayers while traveling with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Hazrat Hafs bin Ubaidullah bin Anas says that we used to travel with Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). When the sun would decline and he was at a stop, he would not mount before offering the Asr prayer. And when he would set out and the time for Asr would come, he would offer the Asr prayer. If he departed from a stop before the sun declined, we would say to him that the time for prayer is about to come. He would say, "Keep moving." Then, when the time between the two prayers would come, he would dismount and offer both the Zuhr and Asr prayers. Then he would say, "I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do the same."

Hazrat Ata narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) was returning from Taif, he delayed the Maghrib prayer, then stood up and combined and offered the Isha and Maghrib prayers together.

Hazrat Abu Uthman says that I and Hazrat Sa’d went towards Makkah, and he used to combine the Zuhr and Asr prayers. He would delay one and offer the other early, and would offer both together. He would delay Maghrib and offer Isha early, then would offer both together. He continued to do so until we reached Makkah.

Hazrat Shahab says that I was on a journey with Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari, and he used to combine the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers.

Hazrat Abu Uthman says that I traveled with Hazrat Usama bin Zaid and Hazrat Saeed bin Zaid; they used to combine the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers.

Hazrat Abdul Jaleel bin Atiyah says that I traveled with Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid, and he used to combine two prayers.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during travel would delay the Zuhr prayer and offer the Asr prayer early, delay the Maghrib prayer and offer the Isha prayer early.

Hazrat Huzail bin Shurahbeel Audhi narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers during a journey.

Hazrat Abdullah says that I never saw the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offering prayer outside of its prescribed time, except that he combined the Maghrib and Isha prayers at Muzdalifah, and on that day he offered the Fajr prayer before its time.

Hazrat Abu Usman says that when Hazrat Usama bin Zaid was in a hurry during a journey, he used to combine two prayers.

Hazrat Malik bin Mughul says that I asked Hazrat Ata about delaying Zuhr and Maghrib, and he did not consider there to be any harm in it.

Hazrat Zaid Abu Usama says that I asked Hazrat Mujahid about delaying Maghrib and hastening Isha, so he replied that this is correct.

Hazrat Amr bin Shu'aib's grandfather narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined two prayers during the Battle of Banu Mustaliq.

Hazrat Umar bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) would perform the Maghrib prayer while on a journey, then eat the evening meal, and then immediately perform the Isha prayer. Then he would say that he had seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do likewise.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined two prayers during a journey.
