Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Bedouins should not prevail over you in the names of the prayers. This prayer is the 'Isha prayer, and you call it 'Al-Atamah.' This word is derived from 'Itam al-Ibil' (the camels entering at night)."

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Bedouins should not prevail over you in the names of the prayers. The name of this prayer in the Book of Allah is 'Isha.' It is called 'Atamah' because at that time (after the disappearance of twilight) the villagers milk their camels.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Bedouins should not prevail over you in the names of the prayers. The name of this prayer in the Book of Allah is 'Isha.' It is called 'Atamah' because at this time (after the disappearance of twilight) the villagers milk their camels."

Ibn Sirin considered it disliked to call the 'Isha prayer "Atamah".

Hazrat Nafi' says that whenever Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) heard people referring to the 'Isha prayer as 'Atamah, he would become very angry and would forbid them from doing so.

Hazrat Maymun bin Mehran says that I asked Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) who was the first to call the Isha prayer "Atamah"? He replied, "Shaitan did."

It is narrated similarly through another chain of transmission.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Sarah narrates that Hazrat Salim said twice, "Do not call this prayer 'Atamah'; this is 'Isha Akhirah'."
