Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade performing prayer after Asr until Maghrib and after Fajr until sunrise.

Hazrat Mu'adh Qureshi narrates that I performed Tawaf of the Ka'bah after Asr and after Fajr with Hazrat Mu'adh bin 'Afra. But I did not offer prayer. I asked him about this, and he said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no prayer after two prayers: after Fajr until the sun rises, and after Asr until the sun sets."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade two prayers: one after Fajr until sunrise, and the other after Asr until sunset.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade two prayers: one after Fajr until the sun rises and becomes high, because the sun rises between the two horns of Satan and sets between them; and the other after Asr until the sun sets.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After Asr, it is not permissible to perform prayer until the sun becomes white and clear.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not perform prayer after Fajr until sunrise, because it rises between the two horns of Satan.

Hazrat Humran bin Aban narrates that Hazrat Muawiyah saw some people performing prayer after Asr. He said that we stayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but we did not see him performing this prayer. He has forbidden this.

It is narrated from the grandfather of Hazrat Amr bin Shu'aib that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade performing prayer after 'Asr until sunset and after Fajr until sunrise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade performing prayer after Asr until sunset and after Fajr until sunrise.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no prayer after Fajr until sunrise, and after Asr until sunset.

Hazrat Abu Alia states that there is no prayer after Fajr until sunrise and after Asr until sunset. And Hazrat Umar used to punish for this.

Hazrat Ashtar narrates that Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed used to beat people for offering prayer after Asr.

Hazrat Abdullah considered it disliked to perform prayer after Asr, and he used to say that I consider disliked that which Hazrat Umar considered disliked.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrates that Hazrat Umar saw a man performing prayer after Asr, so he beat him so much that his sheet fell off.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Abdullah says that I asked Hazrat Salim about performing prayer after Asr, so he replied that I do not consider it correct to start prayer at that time until the sun sets.

Ibn Sirin considered it disliked to perform prayer after Asr until the sun had set.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that Hazrat Umar used to punish for performing two rak'ahs after Asr.

Hazrat Rafi' bin Khadij narrates that Hazrat Umar saw me performing prayer after 'Asr, so he waited for me to complete my prayer. When I finished the prayer, he asked, "Which prayer were you performing?" I replied, "Some of my prayer was missed behind you, so I was completing it." He said, "If I had known that you were performing any prayer after 'Asr, I would not have treated you well."

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I have offered prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar, and Hazrat Uthman, and all of them said that after Fajr, until sunrise, prayer is not performed.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer two rak'ahs after every obligatory prayer, except for Fajr and Asr.

Hazrat Saib says that I saw Hazrat Umar beat Minkadir for offering two rak‘ahs after ‘Asr.

Hazrat Suwaid and Hazrat Qabeesah bin Jabir narrate that Hazrat Umar used to punish for performing two rak'ahs after Asr.

Hazrat Mukhtar says that I asked Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) about performing prayer after Asr, so he replied that Hazrat Umar used to strike the hands of those who performed prayer after Asr.

Hazrat Abu Saeed says that two dates with butter are more beloved to me than offering prayer after Asr.

Hazrat Amr bin Abasah narrates that I asked the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Which moment is the most beloved to Allah Almighty?" He replied: "The last part of the night. You may pray as much as you wish from that time until the Fajr prayer. Then, after the sun rises, refrain from prayer until the sun becomes like a small bow. When it is fully risen, you may pray. Then you may pray until the shadow of the sun becomes completely straight. From that time until the decline of the sun, refrain from prayer, because at midday Hell is kindled. Then, until the Asr prayer, you may continue to pray as you wish. After performing Asr, refrain from prayer until Maghrib, because the sun rises and sets between the two horns of Satan."
