Those who did not recite du‘a qunut in Witr
Hadith 7127
٧١٢٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن سليمان التيمي عن رجل عن أبي (المهزم) (١) عن أبي هريرة قال: نزلت عليه عشر سنين فما رأيته قنت في وتره (٢).
Hazrat Abu Mahzam says that I remained in the company of Hazrat Abu Hurairah for twenty years, and I never saw him recite the Du'a Qunoot in Witr prayers.
Hadith 7128
٧١٢٨ - حدثنا عبد اللَّه بن نمير عن (عبيد اللَّه) (١) بن عمر عن نافع عن ابن عمر أنه كان لا يقنت في الفجر ولا في الوتر (فكان) (٢) إذا سئل عن القنوت قال: ما (نعلم) (٣) القنوت إلا طول القيام وقراءة القرآن (٤).
Hazrat Nafi' states that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not recite the Du'a Qunoot in Fajr or Witr prayers. When he was asked about Qunoot, he would say that we consider Qunoot to be prolonging the standing and the recitation.
Hadith 7129
٧١٢٩ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن عمرو (بن) (١) مرة عن أبي عبيدة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إنما الوتر على أهل القرآن" (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ubaidah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Witr is obligatory upon the people of the Qur'an.
