Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hasan narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, "Which is the best time during the night for the Tahajjud prayer?" He replied, "The middle part of the night."

Hasan says that a man asked Hazrat Abu Dharr: "At which part of the night is supplication more likely to be accepted?" He replied: "In the middle part of the night." The man asked: "Who can get up at that time?" Hazrat Abu Dharr replied: "Whoever fears that he may not be able to get up at that time should pray in the early part of the night."

Hazrat Abu Burdah narrates that once Hazrat Mu’adh asked Hazrat Abu Musa, “How do you recite the Qur’an?” He replied, “I recite it in intervals; I do not complete my routine all at once.” Then Hazrat Mu’adh asked Hazrat Abu Musa, “How do you recite the Qur’an?” He replied, “I sleep in the early part of the night so that I may have the strength to wake up in the last part of the night. I believe that I receive as much reward for this sleep as I do for staying awake.”

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Utbah narrates that Hazrat Abdullah would wake up after people had gone to sleep, and until morning, because of his weeping and lamentation, there would be sounds like the buzzing of bees.

Hazrat Umm Ishaq bint Talha narrates that Hazrat Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to worship Allah in the early part of the night, and Hazrat Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) used to worship in the latter part of the night.

Whenever Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) would wake up at night, he would perform prayer.
