Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Rashid bin Sa’d says that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform prayers carrying their bows.

It is narrated from Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair that swords are the cloaks of the Mujahideen.

Ibrahim says that the predecessors considered swords to be like sheets.

Ibrahim says that in prayer, the sword is like a cloak.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musrooq narrates that I saw Ibrahim Taimi performing prayer, and instead of a sheet, he was only wearing a sword.

Ibrahim narrates that the companions used to pray in such a state that their swords were with them, which had sheaths made of the skin of dead animals.

Hasan says that swords are the cloaks of the Mujahideen.

Hazrat Hammad says that a bow cannot take the place of a sheet.

Ibrahim says that the bow is in the same category as the sheet.

Hazrat Salamah bin Akwa’ asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) whether it is permissible to pray while carrying a bow and a quiver of arrows. He replied: Pray with the bow, but take off the quiver of arrows.
