Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Hisham states that my father, Hazrat Urwah, used to lead women in obligatory prayers, and there would be no man with them.

Hazrat Urwah narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab used to appoint reciters for the people in Ramadan. Hazrat Ubayy would lead the people in prayer, and Hazrat Ibn Abi Hathmah would lead the women.

Ibrahim says that during the time of Hajjaj, I used to lead prayers in my neighborhood, and there was only one woman praying behind me.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that I asked Hazrat Sha'bi and Hazrat Ata whether a man can lead women in prayer when there is no man with them. Both replied that there is no harm in it.

Hazrat Urfajah narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to instruct people to perform the night prayers in Ramadan. He would appoint a separate imam for men and a separate imam for women. He appointed me as the imam for women.

Hasan was asked whether a man can lead only women in prayer during Ramadan. Hasan replied that if there is nothing wrong with the man, then there is nothing wrong with this action. He used to say that if a man misses the congregational prayer, he can come home and lead the women of the household in prayer.

Hazrat Mutahhar bin Juwairiyah narrates that there was a mosque in the house of Hazrat Abu Majliz; he used to gather his family members and slaves in it.
