Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Aun says that I wrote a letter to Hazrat Nafi and asked him whether they would gather for the Eid prayer and the Friday prayer, and whether someone would lead them in these prayers? In reply, he wrote to me that they would indeed gather for the Eid prayer and one person would lead them in the Eid prayer, but regarding the Friday prayer, he had no knowledge.

Hazrat Ikrimah says that if some people are traveling or in villages on the day of Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha, they should gather and perform the prayer, and one person will lead them in prayer.

Hasan says about the people of the village that they will not go out for the Eid prayer, nor will anyone lead them in the Eid prayer.

Hazrat Yahya bin Abi Kathir says that Hazrat Ata bin Abi Rabah was asked about this matter, so he replied that when the village is a congregation, they should pray two rak'ahs like Jumu'ah. Hazrat Hakam bin Utaybah says that Jumu'ah is only with the Imam in the congregational mosque. Hazrat Qatadah says that to my knowledge, Jumu'ah is held with the caliph of the time in the cities of the Muslims. Hazrat Yahya says that it was said that Jumu'ah, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha are only for those who are present with the Imam.

Hazrat Hakam states that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote a letter to the villagers instructing them to perform the Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha prayers and also to offer the Friday prayer.

Hazrat Mak'hool says that when there is a leader in a village, then Jumu'ah becomes obligatory upon them.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Aqmar narrates that Hazrat Masruq, Hazrat Urwah, and Hazrat Mughira came to his village. When the time for Friday prayer came, they did not perform the Friday prayer, and when Eid came, they did not perform the Eid prayer.
