Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara bin Azib that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is obligatory upon Muslims to perform ghusl (ritual bath) on the day of Friday. If they have perfume, they should apply it, and if they do not have perfume, then water is their perfume.

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri narrates that on the day of Friday, it is obligatory for a Muslim to use the miswak, wear his best clothes, and if he has perfume, he should apply it.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) when going for Jumu'ah would apply fragrance and would use the best fragrance available to him.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says that I state in my opinion that if someone has perfume, he should apply it before going for Jumu'ah.

Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal says that taking a bath and applying perfume for Friday is obligatory if he has it.

Hazrat Mujahid says that on the day of Jumu'ah, wear your best clothes and apply your best fragrance.

Hazrat Muawiyah bin Qurrah says that I met thirty men from the tribe of Muzaynah; each of them had either thrown a spear or received spear wounds, and each had either wielded a sword or received sword wounds. All of them would perform ghusl on Friday, wear their best clothes, apply perfume, and go for Jumu'ah. They would offer the two rak'ahs of Jumu'ah and then sit and teach knowledge.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to perfume his clothes with incense every Friday.
