Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that one of the sons of Hazrat Sa'id bin Zaid lived on his land in 'Aqiq, which was several miles away from Madinah. One day, on a Friday morning, he met Hazrat Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and mentioned a complaint of his. Hazrat Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) set out with him and missed the Friday prayer.

Hazrat Abdul Wahab says that I asked Yunus whether a person can miss Friday prayer if his mother, father, or any relative is in the throes of death. He replied that Hasan used to grant concession even to the one responsible for a funeral, allowing him not to attend Friday prayer if he feared the deceased might pass away. Similarly, anyone who has a fear is also permitted not to attend.

Hazrat Ata says that if on Friday your child asks you for help while the Imam is delivering the sermon, then go to the child and leave the Friday (prayer).

Hazrat Imran bin Hadeer says that a man asked Hazrat Abu Majliz, "If I have a stomach ache, should I come for Jumu'ah?" He replied, "This is an excuse."

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

Hasan says that Friday prayer is not obligatory upon a person who is overcome by fear, a slave who is engaged in serving his family, the guardian of a funeral, and a blind person who has no one to bring him.

Hasan was asked whether Jumu'ah is obligatory upon a person who is overcome by fear. He replied, "What is he afraid of?" It was said, "Of the king." Hasan said, "This is an excuse."
