النوم يوم الجمعة والإمام يخطب
Ruling on sleeping during the khutbah on Friday
Hadith 5353
٥٣٥٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال حدثنا إسماعيل بن إبراهيم عن أيوب قال: سمعت ⦗١٢٢⦘ رجلا يخطب يقول: قال محمد: إن النوم في (الجمعة) (١) من الشيطان (فإذا) (٢) نعس أحدكم فليتحول.
Muhammad says that drowsiness during Friday (prayer) is from Satan. If any of you feels drowsy during the sermon, then change your side.
Hadith 5354
٥٣٥٤ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن عمرو عن ابن عمر قال: إذا نعست يوم الجمعة والإمام يخطب فتحول (١).
Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that if any of you feels sleepy during the sermon, he should change his side.
Hadith 5355
٥٣٥٥ - حدثنا الثقفي عن أيوب [قال: كان محمد يوقظ النائم يوم الجمعة والإمام يخطب.
Ayyub narrates that Muhammad used to wake up the one who slept during the sermon.
Hadith 5356
٥٣٥٦ - حدثنا الثقفي عن أيوب] (١) عن ابن سيرين أنه كان إذا خشي أن ينعس في الجمعة تحول.
Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that if someone fears sleep during Jumu'ah, he should change his place.
Hadith 5357
٥٣٥٧ - حدثنا أبو خالد الأحمر عن ابن جريج عن عطاء وطاوس في الذي ينعس يوم الجمعة فقال أحدهما: يتزحزح عن مكانه، وقال الآخر: يتنحى عن مكانه.
One of them, either Hazrat Ata or Hazrat Tawus, says regarding the one who sleeps on Friday that he should move to a different place, and the other says that he should move back from his current spot.
Hadith 5358
٥٣٥٨ - حدثنا وكيع عن مبارك عن الحسن قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "النَّوْمُ أوِ النُّعَاس فِي الْجُمُعَةِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِذَا نَعَسَ أحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَتَحَوَّلْ" (١).
Hasan narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Drowsiness during Friday (prayer) is from Satan. If any of you feels sleepy, he should change his place."
Hadith 5359
٥٣٥٩ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق عن نافع عن ابن عمر قال: سمعت رسول اللَّه ﷺ يقول: "إِذَا نعَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الجُمْعَةِ فَلْيَتَحَوَّلْ مِنْ ⦗١٢٣⦘ مَجْلِسِهِ إِلَى غَيْرهِ" (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If any of you feels sleepy on the day of Jumu'ah, he should change his place.
Hadith 5360
٥٣٦٠ - حدثنا أبو خالد الأحوص بن الأحوص بن حكيم عن طاوس قال: لأن تختلف السياط على ظهري أحب إليَّ من أن أنام (و) (١) الإمام يخطب يوم الجمعة.
Hazrat Tawus says that I would prefer to whips fall on my back rather than sleep during the sermon on Friday.
