Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that some people wrote a letter to Hazrat Umar and asked about Jumu'ah. He replied in writing: "Wherever you are, perform Jumu'ah."

Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote a letter to Adi bin Adi stating that if the people of a settlement are not nomads and wish to move from one area to another, they should appoint an amir over themselves who will lead them in the Friday prayer.

Hazrat Ata says that if one settlement is joined with another, then they will perform Jumu'ah (Friday prayer).

Hazrat Malik narrates that the Companions used to lead the Friday prayer at the springs between Makkah and Madinah.
