Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Qatadah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When the Iqamah is called for prayer, do not stand up until you see me.

Hazrat Abu Khalid Walbi says that when the iqamah for prayer had been called, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, and at that time the people were standing and waiting for him. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them, "Why are you standing with your faces raised like the heedless?"

Ibrahim says that the predecessors considered it disliked that when the muezzin says "Qad qamatis salah," people stand up in the absence of the imam and wait for the imam while standing. And it was said that standing in this manner is the standing of heedlessness.

Hazrat Zubair bin Adi says that I asked Ibrahim whether people should stand while waiting for the Imam or sit? He replied: Sit.

Ibrahim, regarding those people who stand while waiting for the Imam, says that this is standing in heedlessness.
