Hadith 4108
٤١٠٨ - (حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو معاوية عن داود بن أبي هند عن أبي نضرة عن جابر قال: خرج النبي ﷺ ذات ليلة وأصحابه ينتظرونه لصلاة العشاء الآخرة فقال: (نام الناس ورقدوا وأنتم) (١) تنتظرون الصلاة، أما إنكم في صلاة (ما) (٢) انتظرتموها، [(٣) ولولا ضعف الضعيف وكبر الكبير لأخرت هذه الصلاة الى شطر الليل" (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came one night while his companions were waiting to perform the Isha prayer. He said, "The people have performed the prayer and gone to sleep, and you are waiting for the prayer. From the time you have been waiting to perform the prayer, you are considered to be in prayer. If it were not for the weakness of the weak and the old age of the elderly, I would have delayed this prayer until midnight."
Hadith 4109
٤١٠٩ - حدثنا حسين بن علي عن زائدة عن عمران بن مسلم عن سويد بن غفلة قال: من دخل المسجد وهو على طهور لم يزل عاكفا فيه ما دام فيه حتى يخرج منه أو يحدث.
Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghaflah narrates that whoever enters the mosque in a state of ablution remains in the state of i'tikaf until he leaves the mosque or his ablution is nullified.
Hadith 4110
٤١١٠ - حدثنا جرير عن منصور عن إبراهيم قال: كان يقال: إذا صلى الرجل ثم جلس في مصلاه فهو في صلاة والملائكة تصلي عليه ما لم يحدث فيه، فإذا جلس في المسجد فهو في صلاة ما لم يحدث (١): ما لم يؤذ فيه.
Ibrahim says that it was said that as long as a person remains seated in his place after performing prayer, he remains in the state of prayer, and the angels continue to send blessings upon him until he loses his ablution. And as long as he remains seated in the mosque, he remains in the state of prayer until he loses his ablution and as long as he does not cause harm to anyone.
Hadith 4111
٤١١١ - حدثنا معتمر بن سليمان عن الحكم بن أبان عن عكرمة قال: ما من رجل صلى صلاة وينتظر أخرى إلا قالت الملائكة: عبدك فلان اللهم ارحمه حتى يصليها.
Hazrat Ikrimah says that when a person, after offering one prayer, waits for the next prayer, the angels continue to pray for him until he performs that prayer, saying: O Allah! Have mercy on Your such-and-such servant.
Hadith 4112
٤١١٢ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن زائدة عن عمران بن مسلم عن سويد بن غفلة قال: إذا كان الرجل جالسا في المسجد ينتظر الصلاة فهو معتكف.
Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghaflah narrates that as long as a person sits in the mosque waiting for prayer, he remains in the state of i'tikaf.
Hadith 4113
٤١١٣ - حدثنا زيد بن حباب عن عياش الحضرمي قال: أخبرنا يحيى بن ميمون قاضي مصر قال: حدثني سهل بن (سعد) (١) أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قال: "من انتظر الصلاة فهو في صلاة ما لم يحدث" (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever waits for the prayer remains in the state of prayer as long as he does not lose his ablution.
Hadith 4114
٤١١٤ - حدثنا حسين بن علي عن زائدة عن الأعمش عن أبي سفيان عن جابر قال: جهز رسول اللَّه ﷺ جيشا حتى انتصف الليل أو بلغ ذلك، ثم خرج إلينا فقال: "صلى الناس ورقدوا وأنتم تنتظرون الصلاة، أما إنكم لم تزالوا في صلاة ما انتظرتموها"] (١) (٢).
Hazrat Jabir narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out an army. When half the night had passed, he came to us and said that the people have offered the prayer and gone to sleep, while you are still waiting for the prayer. Since you have been waiting for the prayer, you are considered to be in the state of prayer.
Hadith 4115
٤١١٥ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن أبي صالح عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إذا دخل أحدكم المسجد كان في صلاة ما كانت الصلاة تحبسه، والملائكة يصلون (على أحدكم) (١) ما دام في مجلسه الذي صلى فيه يقولون: اللهم اغفر له، اللهم ارحمه، اللهم تب عليه، ما لم يؤذ فيه ما لم يحدث فيه" (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When any one of you enters the mosque, he remains in the state of prayer as long as the prayer keeps him there. The angels continue to send mercy upon you as long as you remain seated in the place where you prayed. The angels say: O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, and pardon him. They continue to make this supplication as long as he does not harm anyone and as long as he does not lose his ablution.
Hadith 4116
٤١١٦ - حدثنا محمد بن فضيل عن عطاء بن السائب عن أبي عبد الرحمن قال: حدثنا رجل من أصحاب النبي ﷺ: أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قال: "إذا صلى أحدكم فقضى صلاته، ثم قعد في مصلاه يذكر اللَّه فهو في صلاة، وإن الملائكة يصلون (عليه) (١)؛ يقولون: اللهم ارحمه واغفر له، وإن (هو) (٢) دخل (٣) مصلاه ينتظر كان مثل ذلك" (٤).
A companion narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If any one of you, after performing the prayer, remains seated at his place and continues to remember Allah, he remains in the state of prayer, and the angels keep supplicating for mercy upon him. The angels say: O Allah! Have mercy on him and forgive him. When he sits at the place of prayer waiting for the next prayer, he continues to receive the same supplication.
Hadith 4117
٤١١٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا محمد بن فضيل عن عاصم عن أبي عثمان قال: احتبس رسول اللَّه ﷺ عن أصحابه في صلاة العشاء حتى بقي ثلث الليل، فأتاهم وبعضهم قائم وبعضهم قاعد وبعضهم مضطجع، فقال: "ما زلتم في صلاة منذ انتظرتموها قائمكم وقاعدكم ومضطجعكم" (١).
Hazrat Abu Uthman says that one night the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not come to lead his companions in the Isha prayer until a third of the night remained. Then he came and saw that some people were standing, some were sitting, and some were lying down. He said to them: Since you have been waiting for the prayer, you are in the state of prayer. Among you, those who are standing, sitting, and lying down.
Hadith 4118
٤١١٨ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن ابن عون عن محمد (عن) (١) أبي هريرة قال: (لا يزال) (٢) أحدكم في صلاة ما دامت الصلاة تحبسه (٣).
Hazrat Abu Huraira says that as long as prayer keeps you engaged, you are in the state of prayer.
Hadith 4119
٤١١٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا يزيد بن هارون قال: (أخبرنا) (١) حميد عن أنس ⦗٣٩٣⦘ قال: أخَّر رسول اللَّه ﷺ ذات ليلة الصلاة إلى شطر الليل، (قال) (٢): فجعل الناس يصلون و (ينكفئون) (٣)، فخرج وقد بقيت عصابة، فصلى بهم، فلما سلم أقبل (عليهم) (٤) بوجهه فقال: "إن الناس قد صلوا ورقدوا وإنكم لم تزالوا في صلاة منذ انتظرتم الصلاة"، قال: فكأني أنظر إلى (وبيص) (٥) خاتمه في يده (٦).
Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) once delayed the Isha prayer until midnight. Some people performed the prayer and started going to their homes. When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, a few people were still present in the mosque; he led them in prayer, and when he finished with salam, he turned his blessed face towards them and said, "People have performed the prayer and gone to sleep, but you have been in the state of prayer as long as you were waiting for it." Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says, "This scene is still before my eyes as if I can still see the shine of his blessed ring."
