Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to joke with us. One day he said to my brother, "O Abu Umair! What happened to your Nughair (bird)?" Then he spread a mat and performed prayer on it.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) offered prayer on a mat.

Hazrat Abu Darda says that I see no harm in offering prayer on six carpets spread one over another.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) led us in the Maghrib prayer on a carpet that was spread throughout the entire room.

Hazrat Mughira says that Hazrat Mahal was telling Ibrahim that I have seen Abu Wa'il praying on a carpet. Ibrahim said that Abu Wa'il was better than me.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Ammar narrates that I saw Hazrat Umar praying on a high-quality carpet.

Hazrat Awza'i says that I saw Hazrat Ata praying on a white mat in Masjid Haram; at that time, there was no one between him and those performing tawaf.

Hasan says that there is no harm in praying on a carpet.

Hazrat Abdul Malik bin Saeed narrates that I saw my father, Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair, performing prayer on a mat, and he would also prostrate on it.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) whenever he prayed on something, he would also perform sajdah (prostration) on that same thing.

Hazrat Bakr bin Abdullah Muzani says that Hazrat Qais bin Abad Qaisi offered prayer on the saddlecloth spread over his mount.

Hazrat Ismail bin Abi Khalid says that I saw Marrah Hamdani praying on a saddlecloth spread over a riding animal.

Yunus narrates that Hasan used to pray on a carpet in such a way that his feet and knees were on the carpet, and his hands and face were on the ground or on a mat.

Hazrat Sufyan says that Ibrahim and Hasan used to pray on such a mat in which, that is, on the inner side, there used to be pictures.
