Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Khalid says that I have seen Abu Qilabah and Hasan supporting themselves with their hands during prayer.

Hasan did not see any harm in a person supporting himself with his hands when getting up during prayer.

Ibrahim considered it undesirable.

Ibrahim considered it undesirable, but he permitted it for an elderly or sick person.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that Hazrat Aswad, Hazrat Shurayh, and Hazrat Masruq used to support themselves with their hands when getting up from prayer.

Ismail narrates that I saw Hazrat Qais supporting himself with his hands while getting up during prayer.

Hazrat Azraq bin Qais narrates that I have seen Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) supporting himself with his hands while getting up during prayer.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to take support with his hands when standing up in prayer.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Sunnah in obligatory prayers is that when a person stands up in the first two rak'ahs of the prayer, he should not use his hands to support himself on the ground. However, if someone is elderly and does not have the strength to stand up without support, then permission is granted for him.

Hazrat Mahdi bin Maimoon says that Hazrat Ibn Sirin considered supporting oneself with the hands as disliked. And Hasan used to support himself with the hands.

Hazrat Huzail bin Bilal narrates that I saw Hazrat Ata’ supporting himself with his hands during prayer.

Hazrat Abu Qalabah narrates that Malik bin Huwairith came to us and said, "Shall I not show you the prayer of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" Then Malik bin Huwairith offered the prayer without its (prescribed) time, and when he raised his head from the second prostration of the first rak'ah, he sat fully, then stood up and supported himself with his hands.
