Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ubaidah says about the daytime prayers that make yourself hear (your recitation).

Hazrat Laith and Hazrat Ibn Sabit say that the minimum amount of recitation of the Qur'an is that you make your ears hear it.

Hazrat Alqama narrates that I offered one of the daytime prayers with Hazrat Abdullah, and I could not tell from where he was reciting. However, when he said { رَبِّ زِدْنِی عِلْمًا }, I realized that he was reciting Surah Taha.

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) saw a man reciting aloud in the daytime prayer. He called him and said that recitation is not done aloud in the daytime prayers. Recite in a low voice.

Hazrat Asim narrates that Hazrat Ibn Sirin used to recite in the Nafl prayers with such a voice that we could hear his recitation. But when he performed the obligatory prayers, we could not hear his recitation.

Ibn Aun narrates that when Muhammad used to offer voluntary prayers during the day, we could hear his voice.

Hasan says that the prayer of the day is silent, and the prayer of the night should be audible to your ears.

Hazrat Abdul Kareem narrates that a man recited aloud while praying with Hazrat Abu Ubaidah, so he said to him: "The prayer of the day is silent, and the prayer of the night should be audible to your own ears."

Ibrahim says that if there is no fear of causing inconvenience to anyone, then recitation in a loud voice is permissible in voluntary prayers during the day.

Hazrat Alqamah narrates that Hazrat Abdullah was praying in the mosque, and I stood with him. I could not tell which recitation he was doing, but when he said { رَبِّ زِدْنِی عِلْمًا }, I realized that he was reciting Surah Taha.

Hazrat Ibn Aun narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz recited aloud in the daytime prayer, so Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib sent him a message saying, "Do you want to put people in doubt?!"

Yahya bin Abi Kathir reports that some people informed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that there are some individuals who recite aloud during the daytime prayers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pelt them with dung."

Hazrat Ibn Abi Laila says that when you recite (the Qur'an), let your ears hear it, because the heart is the intermediary between the ears and the tongue.

Hazrat Ata says that Hazrat Hakim bin Iqal has prohibited reciting aloud in the prayers of the day and said that in the prayers of the night, if one wishes, one may recite aloud.
