Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim says that I saw Hazrat Aswad performing prayer by gestures during illness.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Harmalah narrates that I saw Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib, when he was ill and did not have the strength to sit, he would gesture and would not raise anything towards his head.

Yunus and Hasan say that the sick person will pray according to his condition.

Hazrat Tamimah says that Hazrat Shurayh came to visit Hazrat Abu Maisarah during his illness and asked him, "How do you perform prayer?" He replied, "While sitting." Hazrat Shurayh said to him, "You are more knowledgeable than me."

Hazrat Muhammad bin Sirin used to say that when a sick person does not have the strength to perform prostration, he should pray by making gestures.

Hazrat Husain says that I asked Hazrat Aamir about the prayer of a sick person, so he replied that when he does not have the strength to place his forehead on the ground, he should pray by gesturing and bow his prostration lower than his bowing.

Jabalah bin Suhaim reports that I asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) whether a sick person can pray on a wooden plank. He replied, "I cannot permit you to take anything as a deity besides Allah. If you do not have the strength to pray standing, then pray sitting; and if you do not have the strength to pray sitting, then pray lying down."

Hazrat Abu Al-Haitham says that we visited Ibrahim during his illness; he was lying on his right side and was performing prayer by gesturing.

Hazrat Abu Khulda says that I saw Hazrat Abu Alia performing prayer by gestures while he was ill.

Hazrat Tawus says that the sick person will pray while sitting; if he does not have the strength to sit, then he should pray by gestures and should not take support of a stick.

Hazrat Ata says that if a sick person does not have the strength to perform the prayer, then he should pray by making gestures.

Hazrat Harith says that if a sick person is not able to pray while sitting, then he should lie straight and keep his feet towards the Qiblah, and pray by making gestures while keeping his face towards the Qiblah.

Hazrat Mukhtar bin Fulful narrates that I asked Hazrat Anas about the method of prayer for a sick person, so he said that he should pray while sitting and perform prostration on the ground.

Hazrat Urwah says that the sick person will pray by gesturing and will not raise anything towards his head.
