Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Bakr, and Hazrat Umar used to say Takbeer at every act of raising and lowering, and during standing and sitting.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar, and Hazrat Uthman did not leave out the takbeer in any act.

Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon narrates that Hazrat Umar used to say the Takbeer in full.

Hazrat Ammar says that if Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had not performed any virtuous deed, the revival of these two takbirs alone would have been sufficient for him; that is, the takbir of bowing (ruku) and prostration (sajda).

Hazrat Abu Majliz states that Hazrat Qais bin Abad advised me that I should say Takbeer while going into prostration and while rising from prostration.

Hazrat Wahb bin Kaysan narrates that Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to teach us to say the takbeer in prayer while going down and while rising up.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Marwan used to ask Hazrat Abu Hurairah to lead the prayer, and he used to say all the complete takbeers, and Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) also used to say all the complete takbeers.

Hazrat Awn bin Abdullah narrates that Hazrat Ibn Masood used to say the complete takbeers.

Hazrat Abu Razin narrates that Hazrat Ali used to say Takbeer while going into prostration and while rising from prostration.

Hazrat Abu Razeen says that I have offered prayer behind Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud; both of them used to say all the takbeers.

Hazrat Burd narrates that Hazrat Mak'hool used to say Takbeer while going into prostration and while getting up between the two rak'ahs.

Hazrat Amr bin Murrah says that Ibrahim used to say all the Takbeers.

Hazrat Amr bin Dinar says that Hazrat Ibn al-Zubair used to say Takbeer when rising from the Rak‘ah.

Hazrat Abu Malik Ash'ari once said to the people of his tribe, "Stand up, I will teach you the prayer of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." The people formed rows behind him, then he said the takbeer, then recited (Qur'an), then said the takbeer, then performed ruku', then raised his head from ruku' and again said the takbeer. He performed the entire prayer in this manner.

Hazrat Abu Musa narrates that Hazrat Ali led us in prayer during the Battle of Jamal and also said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer prayer in this manner. Then either we forgot it or we deliberately abandoned it. He led the prayer such that at every bowing and rising, and during standing and sitting, he said "Allahu Akbar." And he turned his head to the right and to the left while saying the salam.

Hazrat Mutarrif bin Abdullah narrates that I and Hazrat Imran bin Husain offered prayer with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He used to say Takbeer while going into prostration and also while raising his head. When he finished the prayer, Hazrat Imran said, "He has led us in the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Hazrat Abdul Malik says that Saeed bin Jubair used to say takbeer when rising from ruku and when going into ruku. When this was mentioned to Abu Ja'far, he said that they knew this was the way of prayer of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Hazrat Saeed also used to say that because of this action, the dignity of the prayer increases.

Hazrat Zuhri narrates that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), son of Hussain, told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray in this manner as well. It has been mentioned from him that Hazrat Abu Hurairah also used to say Allahu Akbar while rising and bowing.

Hazrat Ikrimah says that I saw Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) performing prayer near Maqam Ibrahim; he used to say Takbeer when rising and bowing. He says that I went to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and told him about this. He said, "Was this not the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?"

Hazrat Abu Salamah narrates that when Hazrat Abu Hurairah led us in prayer, he used to say takbeer while bowing and rising. And when he finished the prayer with salam, he would say that I was teaching you the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
