Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Umar says that if I had the strength to call the adhan while having the responsibilities of the caliphate, I would certainly have given the adhan.

Hazrat Zadhan says that if people were to know the reward of the Adhan, they would try to attain it even by means of swords.

Hazrat Sa'd says that giving the call to prayer (adhan) is more beloved to me than Hajj, Umrah, and Jihad.

Hazrat Ka'b states that whoever gives the call to prayer (adhan), seventy good deeds are written for him, and whoever says the iqamah, this is even more virtuous.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, made this supplication: "O Allah! Guide the leaders to the straight path and forgive the muezzins."

Yahya narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If people knew what is in the call to prayer (adhan), they would run to it. He says that it was said: Strive to go for the call to prayer, but do not strive as much for leading the prayer (imamat).

Hasan says that the muezzin who gives the call to prayer with the intention of reward will be the first to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection.

Hazrat Muawiyah narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: The mu’adhdhins will have the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection.

Hasan says that on the Day of Resurrection, the righteous and sincere muezzins will be the first to be clothed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bilal will be the leader of the mu’adhdhins on the Day of Resurrection, and only a believer will be behind him. Those who give the call to prayer will have elevated necks on the Day of Resurrection.

Hazrat Ibn Masood says that if I were a muezzin, I would not care about not performing Hajj and Jihad.

Hazrat Umar said that if, along with the responsibilities of the caliphate, I had the strength to give the call to prayer (adhan), I would certainly have given the adhan.

Once, Hazrat Umar asked the people, "Who are your muezzins?" They replied, "Our slaves and our freedmen." Hazrat Umar said, "This is a great shortcoming of yours."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that in my opinion, this verse was revealed about the mu’adhdhins: Who can speak better than one who calls people to Allah, does good deeds, and says, "I am among the Muslims."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Wherever the voice of the muezzin reaches, every dry and wet thing prays for his forgiveness and bears witness to his truthfulness.

Hazrat Abu Huraira says that call the adhan in a loud voice, because everything that hears you will bear witness for you.

Hazrat Mujahid says that every dry and wet thing that hears the muezzin will bear witness for him.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) asked a man, "What is your occupation?" He replied, "Giving the call to prayer (Adhan)." Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said, "Your occupation is indeed very good; everything that hears you will bear witness for you."
