Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Shaddad narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand and said to Hazrat Bilal that you should not give the call to prayer until you see the light like this.

Hazrat Suwaid narrates that Hazrat Bilal would not give the adhan until the dawn had become bright.

Hazrat Ata says that Hazrat Abu Mahdhura gave the call to prayer (Adhan) for the Prophet (peace be upon him), Hazrat Abu Bakr, and Hazrat Umar, and he would not give the Adhan before the rising of dawn.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the companions did not give the call to prayer (Adhan) until the break of dawn.

Ibrahim narrates that we set out towards Makkah with Hazrat Alqamah. During the night, he heard a muezzin giving the adhan, so he said that he has opposed the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); if he had been asleep, it would have been better. Then, when the morning would dawn, he would give the adhan at that time.

Ibrahim considered it disliked to give the adhan before Fajr.

Hazrat Ubaidullah says that I asked Hazrat Nafi whether the Companions used to give the adhan before Fajr. He replied that the adhan is given only at the time of Fajr.

Hasan narrates that during the time of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), people doubted the rising of Fajr, so Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) ordered his muezzin, and he gave the call to prayer and the iqamah.

Hazrat Aamir says that the call to prayer (adhan) will not be given for the prayer until its time has begun.
