Ruling on Giving Adhan While Sitting
Hadith 2236
٢٢٣٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا وكيع عن علي بن المبارك الهنائي عن (الحسن العبدي) (١) قال: رأيت أبا زيد صاحب رسول اللَّه ﷺ وكانت رجله أصيبت في سبيل اللَّه- يؤذن وهو قاعد (٢).
Hasan Abdi says that I saw a companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, Hazrat Abu Zaid, whose foot had been injured while fighting in the path of Allah. He used to give the call to prayer while sitting.
Hadith 2237
٢٢٣٧ - [حدثنا حفص عن حجاج عن أبي إسحاق قال: كانوا يكرهون أن يؤذن الرجل وهو قاعد] (١).
Hazrat Abu Ishaq says that the predecessors considered giving the adhan while sitting to be disliked.
Hadith 2238
٢٢٣٨ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن ابن جريج عن عطاء: [أنه كره أن يؤذن وهو قاعد إلا من عذر.
Hazrat Ata says that giving the call to prayer (adhan) while sitting without a valid excuse is disliked (makruh).
Hadith 2239
٢٢٣٩ - حدثنا عمر بن هارون عن (ابن جريج) (١) عن عطاء] (٢) قال: قلت له: يؤذن الرجل وهو قاعد؟ قال: (لا) (٣)، إلا من علة، قلت: فمن نعاس أو كسل؟ قال: لا.
Hazrat Ibn Juraij says that I asked Hazrat Ata, "Can a person give the adhan while sitting?" He replied, "No, except if there is an excuse, then it is permissible." I asked, "Due to drowsiness or laziness?" He replied, "No."
