Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Razin narrates that once a man came to Hazrat Abu Ja'far and said, "Sometimes I go out of the house on a rainy night and mud sticks to my feet. What is the ruling for me?" He replied, "Perform the prayer." The man expressed displeasure and said, "Sometimes there is also a bad smell and filth in it." He replied, "If you pass through something with a bad smell, then wash it with water."

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib said to a man, "Why did you not enter after washing your feet?"

Hazrat Hakam states that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) would walk over the mud caused by rain and come to the mosque and perform prayer without performing ablution.

Hazrat Hakeem bin Dailam says that I saw Hazrat Ibn Ma'qil on a rainy day, facing towards a pillar in the mosque and performing prayer, and there were marks of mud on his feet like those of anklets.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Aswad says that I saw Hazrat Alqamah and Hazrat Aswad passing through rainwater when the drains were flowing fully, then they would enter the mosque and offer prayers but would not perform ablution.

Yunus narrates that Hasan had a habit that on rainy days, when he was about to enter the mosque, he would look at his socks; if there was a little mud on them, he would clean it off and then enter the mosque and pray. If there was a lot of mud, he would take them off and order them to be washed.

Ibrahim says that our predecessors used to pass through water and mud to go to the mosques, and they would perform the prayer without washing their feet.

Hazrat Mukhtar bin Saad says that I saw Qasim bin Muhammad enter the mosque on a rainy day and he did not wash his feet.

Hazrat Sha’bah says that I used to pass through the rain. Regarding this, I asked Hazrat Hakeem, and he said, “Pray in it, pray in it.” I heard Abu Ishaq saying that the predecessors used to pass through the rain and would pray. They did not carry water pots with them.

Hazrat Amr bin Abdullah narrates that Huzail used to walk in the muddy rain while wearing leather socks, and then he would not wash them.
