Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "It is more beloved to me that I cut these socks with knives than that I wipe over them."

Hazrat Ismail bin Salim narrates that Hazrat Mujahid and some of his companions, among whom was Hazrat Abadah bin Abi Lubabah, were going with the intention of performing Hajj. Hazrat Abadah used to lead them in prayer. One day he went to relieve himself and was delayed for a long time. When he returned, Hazrat Mujahid asked him why he was late. He replied that he had relieved himself, then performed ablution and wiped over his socks. Hazrat Mujahid said, "Go ahead and lead the prayer, I do not know what is sufficient for your prayer (washing or wiping?)."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Book of Allah takes precedence over analogy.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that the Book of Allah takes precedence over socks (leather socks).

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the predecessors used to permit wiping over leather socks during travel and in severe cold.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that for me, wiping over the socks and passing my hand over the backs of my camels are equal.

Hazrat Qasim narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair saw me wiping over my two white socks. He said to me, "Why are you ruining your socks?"

Hazrat Fitr says that I said to Hazrat Ata that Ikrimah says that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says that the Book of Allah is before (takes precedence over) wiping over leather socks (khuffs). Hazrat Ata said, "Ikrimah is lying; I have seen Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) wiping over leather socks."

Hazrat Abu Huraira says that I do not care whether I wipe over the socks or over the back of a donkey.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I would prefer to cut my fingers or socks with a knife rather than wipe over them.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that wiping over the socks is done once.

Hasan says that wiping over the socks will be done once.

Sulaiman narrates that Ibrahim performed ablution and wiped over the socks once.

Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah narrates that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) urinate, then perform ablution, then wipe over his socks in such a way that he placed his right hand on the right sock and his left hand on the left sock, then wiped upwards once, as if the marks of his fingers on his socks are still before me.
