Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Usman says that what is meant by this is touching with the hand.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that this refers to intercourse.

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

Hazrat Abdullah says that by this is meant such touching which is less than intercourse.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that this refers to intercourse.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that I asked Hazrat Ubaidah about this verse, so he gestured with his hand in such a way that I understood, and I did not ask further.

Ibn Sirin says that I asked Ubaidah about this matter, so he gestured with his hand and closed his fist.

Hasan says that this refers to intercourse.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that what is meant by this is such touching which is less than intercourse.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that there was a disagreement between me and some Arabs regarding "lamas". I and some mawali used to say that it refers to an act less than intercourse, while the Arabs used to say that it refers to intercourse. We went to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) for a decision, and he said that the Arabs have prevailed; by this, intercourse is meant.

Hazrat Abdullah says that kissing is a part of touching; it breaks the ablution, and touching is that which is less than intercourse.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that by the word "lamas," the word "mass," and the word "mubasharat," intercourse is meant, but Allah Almighty can use any thing as an allusion for whatever He wills.
