Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if a mouse falls into water, so much water should be taken out that the remaining water prevails over the people.

Hasan says that if a mouse falls into water, forty buckets of water should be taken out.

Ibrahim says that if a mouse or a cat falls into the water, forty buckets of water should be taken out. Hazrat Mughira says that so much water should be taken out that the color of the water changes.

Hazrat Ata says that if a rat falls into the water, twenty buckets of water should be taken out; if it swells, then forty buckets should be taken out. If a goat falls in, forty buckets should be taken out, and if it swells, then all the water or forty buckets should be taken out.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that if a chicken falls into a well, seventy buckets of water should be drawn out.

Hazrat Ata says that if a hen or something similar falls into a well and dies, then take out one bucket of water from it and perform ablution. And if it becomes swollen, then take out forty buckets of water from it.

Hazrat Hammad says that if a chicken, dog, or cat, etc., falls into a well and dies, then thirty to forty buckets of water should be drawn from it.

Hazrat Zuhri says that if an animal falls into a well, then if the taste and smell of the water do not change, there is no problem with the water. But if the taste or smell of the water changes, then all the water should be drawn out until the water becomes pure.

Hazrat Salamah bin Kuhail says that if a chicken falls into a well, forty buckets (of water) should be drawn out.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: If a child urinates in a well, what is the ruling? He replied: All of its water should be removed.

Hazrat Ata narrates that once an Abyssinian fell into the well of Zamzam and died. Hazrat Ibn al-Zubair ordered that all the water of the Zamzam well be removed. People began to draw out the water, but the water would not stop. It was observed that from the side of the Black Stone, a spring was gushing forth, due to which the water of Zamzam would not cease. Hazrat Ibn al-Zubair said that this much is sufficient for you.

Hazrat Qatadah narrates that once an Abyssinian fell into the well of Zamzam and died. Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) sent a man into it who brought him out. Then he said, "Remove all its water." Then he said to the person in the well, "Draw out the water from the side of the spring which is towards the House of Allah or the Rukn, because this is a spring from Paradise."
