Tayammum is Not Permissible if Water is Expected
Hadith 1715
١٧١٥ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا شريك عن أبي إسحاق عن الحارث عن علي قال: يتلوم الجنب ما بينه وبين آخر الوقت (١).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a person in a state of major impurity will wait until the last moment to find water and will delay performing tayammum.
Hadith 1716
١٧١٦ - حدثنا محمد بن أبي عدي عن أشعث عن الحسن وابن سيرين أنهما قالا: لا يتيمم ما رجا أن يقدر على الماء في الوقت.
Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin say that if there is hope of finding water within the time of prayer, then performing tayammum is not permissible.
Hadith 1717
١٧١٧ - حدثنا (عمر) (١) عن ابن جريج عن عطاء قال: إذا كنت في الحضر، وحضرت الصلاة، وليس عندك ماء؛ فانتظر الماء، فإن خشيت فوت الصلاة؛ فتيمم وصل.
Hazrat Ata says that if you are in a state of residence, and the time for prayer arrives, and you do not have water, then wait for water. If you fear that the prayer will be missed, then perform tayammum and offer the prayer.
