Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Umm Qais bint Mihsan narrates that once I brought my child to the presence of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The child had not yet started eating food. He urinated on the clothes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet called for water and sprinkled it over the place where the urine had fallen.

Hazrat Lubabah bint Al-Harith narrates that once Hazrat Husain bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) urinated on the clothes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said, "Give me your clothes and wear some other clothes." The Prophet replied, "Water is sprinkled over the urine of a boy, and the urine of a girl is washed."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that once a child urinated on the clothes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He poured water over it but did not wash it.

Hazrat Abu Laila narrates that once we were sitting with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Hazrat Husain bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came crawling on his knees and climbed onto the blessed chest of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and urinated. We quickly moved forward to catch him, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My child, my child." Then he called for water and poured it over the spot.

Hazrat Abu Ja'far narrates that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the house of Umm Fadl. Hazrat Hussain was with Umm Fadl, and she handed Hazrat Hussain to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Hazrat Hussain urinated on the blessed chest of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When Umm Fadl tried to take the child, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not stop my child from urinating, do not stop my child from urinating. Water is sprinkled over a boy's urine, and a girl's urine is washed."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that water is sprinkled over the urine of a boy, and the urine of a girl is washed.

Hasan says that as long as a boy or girl does not eat food, water should be sprinkled over their urine.

Hazrat Umm Salamah narrates that the urine of a girl should be washed, and water should be sprinkled over the urine of a boy.

Ibrahim says that water should be poured over the urine of a child.

Ibrahim says that if the child eats food, his urine should be washed, and if he does not eat food, water should be sprinkled over his urine.

Hazrat Ata says that if the child eats food, his urine should be washed, and if he does not eat food, water should be sprinkled on his urine.

Hazrat Aamir says that water should be poured over the urine of a child.

Hazrat Ibn Jurayj says that I asked Hazrat Ata, "If a child does not eat food, should you wash your clothes if he urinates or defecates on them?" He replied, "Sprinkle water on it or pour water over it." I asked, "Before a child starts eating food, he is given ghee or honey to taste; is this considered food?" He replied, "In that case, wash it or sprinkle water on it."

Ibn Shihab states that the ruling of the Shariah has always been that water should be sprinkled over the urine of a child who does not eat food, and the urine of a child who eats food should be washed.
