Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Harith narrates that once Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for water, and before putting his hands into the vessel, he washed them three times. Then he said that he had seen the Messenger of Allah do the same.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that when a person urinates or his ablution breaks, he should not put his hands into the vessel before washing them.

Hasan says that when you want to perform ablution, do not put your hands into the vessel before washing them.

Hazrat Abu Hayya narrates that once Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) performed ablution, then he washed his palms in it, then washed his face and arms, then said, "I wanted to show you the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
