Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Sirin states that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared it Sunnah to rinse the nose three times during the ritual bath (ghusl) after major impurity.

Hazrat Umar says that when you perform ghusl janabat, rinse your mouth three times. This is something that cleanses more thoroughly.

When Hazrat Uthman performed ghusl, he would clean by rubbing with his finger three times.

Hazrat Hassan bin Bilal says that after urinating, the nose should be cleaned once; after defecating, twice; and due to major ritual impurity (janabah), three times.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ghusl after janabah, he would rinse his mouth three times and put water into his nose three times.

Hazrat Qatadah used to rinse his mouth three times after performing ghusl (ritual bath) for janabah, twice after defecation, and once after urination.

Ibrahim says that the predecessors liked to clean the nose three times during the ritual bath of janabah.
