Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jubair bin Mut’im narrates that some people had a disagreement about the ritual bath (ghusl janabat) in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). One man said, “I wash my head such and such amount.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “I pour three handfuls of water on my head.”

Someone asked Hazrat Abu Huraira that if I have to perform ghusl in the state of janabah, how much water should I pour on my head? He replied that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pour three handfuls of water on his blessed head. The person said that my hair is long. Hazrat Abu Huraira replied, The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had hair longer and better than yours.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Our region is cold, how should we perform ghusl after janabah?" The Prophet replied, "I pour water over my head three times."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) poured water over his head three times while performing the ritual bath (ghusl) after major impurity.

Hazrat Umar says that I pour water over my head three times.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that a person in the state of major ritual impurity (janabah) should pour water over his head three times.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that a person in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) should pour water over his head three times.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to wash his head twice while performing ghusl for janabah.

Hasan narrates that once the people of Taif said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, "Our region is cold. How should we perform the ritual bath (ghusl) after major impurity?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, replied, "I pour water over my head three times."

Hazrat Umm Hani states that when you perform ghusl after janabah, wash each of your limbs three times.

A man asked Hazrat Abu Saeed about bathing, so he replied, "Wash the limbs three times each." The man said, "My hair is a lot." Hazrat Saeed replied, "The hair of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was more and better than yours."
