Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Maymunah narrates that I placed water for the Prophet (peace be upon him) to perform ghusl. He performed the ghusl for janabah in such a way that he tilted the vessel with his left hand and took water from it, washed his palm with it, then poured water over his private parts and washed them, then rubbed his hand on the ground. Then he rinsed his mouth, then put water into his nose, then washed his face and arms. Then he poured water over his head, then poured water over his entire body. Then he stepped back from the bathing place and washed his feet. She says: I brought a cloth for him, but he returned it and said that water is shaken off like this.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the ghusl of janabah in such a way that he first washed both his hands three times, then performed the ablution as for prayer. Then he placed his hand on his hair and ran his fingers through it so that water reached the scalp. Then he poured water over his head three times, then poured water over his entire body.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to perform ghusl (ritual bath) after janabah, a vessel of water would be placed for him. He would wash his hands before putting them into the water. After washing his hands, he would insert his right hand into the vessel. With his right hand, he would take water and clean his private parts with his left hand. Then, pouring water from his right hand onto his left hand, he would wash it. Then he would rinse his mouth and nose three times each, then take both hands full of water and pour it over his head three times, and then wash his entire body.

Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that when Hazrat Umar performed ghusl janabat, he would first wash the lower part, then perform the ablution for prayer, and then pour water over the entire body.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the bath of janabah says that first perform ablution as for prayer, then remove the impurity, then rub the hand on the ground to clean it, then wash the hand, then pour water over the entire body.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila was asked about the ritual bath (ghusl) after major impurity, so he said: First wash both your hands, then pour water from your right hand onto your left hand, then wash your private parts, then wash both hands, then perform ablution as you do for prayer.

Ibrahim Taimi says regarding the ritual bath of janabah: First wash the right hand, then pour water from the right hand onto the left, then clean the impurity from the private parts, then rub the hand against the wall, then perform ablution.

Ibrahim says that purification will take place before the bath.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib, regarding the ritual bath (ghusl) after impurity, says that when you have washed your hands, then start from wherever you wish.

According to Hazrat Sha'bi, there is no ablution (wudu) in the ritual bath (ghusl) of janabah.

Hazrat Asim bin Umar narrates that a delegation from Iraq came to Hazrat Umar and asked him about the ritual bath (ghusl) after major impurity (janabah). He replied, "You have asked me about something that no one has asked me since the time I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. In the ritual bath after major impurity, perform the same ablution (wudu) that you do for prayer."
