Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wished to sleep in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), he would perform ablution (wudu) as done for prayer.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wished to sleep in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), he would perform ablution as for prayer. And if he wished to eat, he would wash his hands, that is, while in a state of janabah.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if a person in a state of major impurity (janabah) wishes to eat food or sleep, he should perform ablution (wudu) as he does for prayer.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) if he wished to eat or sleep in a state of impurity (janabah), he would first wash his face and hands and wipe over his head.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when any of you wishes to sleep in a state of impurity (janabah), he should perform ablution (wudu) first, because it is possible that he may pass away during sleep.

Hazrat Abu Ad-Duha was asked whether a person in a state of janabah can eat. He replied, "Yes, he can also walk around in the market."

Hazrat Shaddad bin Aws narrates that if any of you becomes junub (in a state of major ritual impurity) at night and wishes to sleep in that state, he should perform ablution (wudu) first; by doing so, he will attain half of the purification.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that if a person in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) wishes to eat or sleep, he should first perform ablution (wudu) as is done for prayer.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib says that if a person in a state of janabah wants to eat something, he should wash his hands and rinse his mouth.

Hazrat Mujahid says that a person in a state of janabah can eat after washing his hands.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib says that a person in a state of major impurity should perform ablution before sleeping.

Hazrat Zuhri says that a person in a state of janabah should wash his hands before eating.

Ibrahim says that a person in a state of major ritual impurity should drink water before performing ablution.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution before eating or sleeping while in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah).

Hazrat Muhammad bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that if a person in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) wishes to eat or sleep, he should first perform ablution (wudu) as done for prayer.

Hazrat Umar asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) whether a person in a state of janabah can sleep. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes, he can sleep after performing ablution."

Hazrat Abu Salamah asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sleep in a state of janabah. She replied that he used to perform ablution as for prayer and then sleep.

Hazrat Umar says that when a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) wishes to eat, drink, or sleep, he should perform ablution (wudu).

Ibrahim says that when a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) wishes to eat or sleep, he should perform ablution (wudu).

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said (about the person who is in a state of janabah and wishes to sleep) that he should perform wudu or tayammum.

Hazrat Umar asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Can I sleep in a state of janabah?" He replied, "You may sleep after performing ablution."

Hazrat Ammar narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted concession to a person in the state of major ritual impurity (junub) that he may perform ablution (wudu) and then eat, drink, and sleep.
