Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

After urinating, Hazrat Umar would clean himself with a stone or by rubbing against a wall; he would not perform istinja with water.

Hazrat Sa’d once passed by a man who was washing his private part after urinating. He said, “Why do you include such things in your religion which are not part of it?”

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mastoor narrates that Majma' bin Yazid saw me washing the place of urine. He asked me, "Did you not clean it after urinating?" I said, "Why not?" He said, "That much is sufficient."

Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah narrates that my father did not use to wash the place of urination. He would perform ablution and would not use water for istinja.

Hazrat Ibn Zubair saw a man washing only the place of urine, and he said: Why does he not wash his buttocks?

Hasan (regarding the person who urinated and forgot to wash the place of urine) says, "That is sufficient for him."

Hazrat Ibn Zubair saw a man washing the place of excrement, so he said, "We did not use to do this."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to urinate, so Hazrat Umar followed him carrying water. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Umar! What is this?" He replied, "This is water, so that you may perform ablution with it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I have not been commanded to perform ablution after every urination. If I do so, this act will become a part of the religion."
